Incheon International Airport (인천국제공항) is Korea's main gateway, on an island west of Seoul, with two terminals that are 15 to 18 minutes apart by shuttle bus. Korean Air, Asiana, Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul, Delta, Air France, and KLM use Terminal 2; almost everyone else uses Terminal 1. The fastest way into Seoul is the AREX express train, ₩13,000 (about $9.60) and 43 minutes from Terminal 1 to Seoul Station, and the cheapest is the AREX all-stop train at ₩4,750 (about $3.50) in about an hour. Limousine buses to most Seoul neighborhoods cost ₩17,000 to ₩18,000 (about $12.50 to $13), and a regular taxi to central Seoul runs on the meter from ₩4,800 plus a ₩2,000 to ₩3,200 bridge toll.
Which terminal you are in
Terminal 2 (제2여객터미널, T2) handles 14 airlines as of September 2026: Korean Air, Asiana (which moved from Terminal 1 on January 14, 2026), Jin Air, Air Busan, Air Seoul, Delta, Air France, KLM, Garuda Indonesia, Xiamen Airlines, China Airlines, Aeromexico, SAS, and Virgin Atlantic. Terminal 1 (제1여객터미널, T1) handles everyone else, including Jeju Air, T'way, Eastar Jet, Air Premia, United, American, Air Canada, Lufthansa, Emirates, Qatar, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, JAL, ANA, and the mainland Chinese carriers. On a codeshare ticket you use the terminal of the airline actually flying the plane, not the one that sold you the ticket, so check the operating carrier on your boarding pass.
Both terminals have the same layout: arrivals on the first floor, departures and check-in on the third floor, and a Transportation Center (교통센터) in the basement with the train station. In Terminal 1 the arrivals hall has exit doors numbered 1 to 14 along the front; in Terminal 2 the bus terminal is downstairs in the Transportation Center.
If you are in the wrong terminal, the free shuttle bus leaves from the third floor: door 8 in Terminal 1 and between doors 4 and 5 in Terminal 2, from 05:00 to 23:00, about every 10 minutes. It takes about 15 minutes from T1 to T2 and 18 minutes back. The all-stop AREX train also links the two terminals in 6 minutes for ₩1,200 (about $0.90) with a transit card.
Step by step: from the gate to your ride
- Get a SIM or eSIM and a transit card in the arrivals hall. In Terminal 1, the SKT, KT, and LG U+ counters are on the first floor near arrival exit F (west side, open 24 hours) and near exit A (east side, 06:00 to 22:00). In Terminal 2 they are on the first floor near door 7 (SKT) and door 4 (KT and LG U+), 24 hours. The 24-hour CU convenience stores on the first floor of Terminal 1, near arrival exits B and E, sell T-money cards; the AREX ticket machines downstairs can load them.
- For the train, go down to the Transportation Center (B1). The express train (직통열차) has its own customer center where you buy a ticket with an assigned seat; you cannot tap a T-money card through its gate. The all-stop train (일반열차) uses the ordinary subway gates, so tap your card or buy a single-journey ticket from the machine, which costs ₩100 more plus a ₩500 deposit you get back at the other end.
- For a limousine bus from Terminal 1, stay on the first floor and go out doors 3 to 7. That stretch of curb is for Seoul routes; doors 7 to 10 serve Gyeonggi Province and doors 11 to 13 serve buses to other cities. Ticket booths are inside near doors 4 and 9 and outside near doors 4, 6, 7, 8, 11, and 13, and they take transit cards and credit cards. Kiosks run 24 hours.
- For a limousine bus from Terminal 2, go down to the bus terminal in the Transportation Center. Seoul routes use the central platforms, numbered 11 to 35; buses to other cities use platforms 1 to 10 on the west side. The ticket office is in the same hall. The airport's own advice: allow one to two hours for immigration before you book a specific departure.
- For a taxi, use the marked stands on the first floor and nothing else. Seoul taxis wait at stands 5C, 6C, and 6D outside Terminal 1 and 7C outside Terminal 2; deluxe and large taxis are at 7C and 8C (T1) and 7D (T2). The International Taxi desk is at stand 4C (T1) and 3C (T2). Ignore anyone inside the terminal offering you a ride.
Costs

The express train's posted "normal fare" is ₩18,500 to ₩19,100, but the ₩13,000 adult fare has been the standing price on the AREX site, and the online booking site sells it for ₩12,500 to members. Regular taxis run on the Seoul meter: ₩4,800 for the first 1.6 km, then ₩100 per 131 m, with 20% added between 22:00 and 23:00 and 02:00 to 04:00 and 40% between 23:00 and 02:00. The airport publishes no estimated taxi fares to Seoul, so budget by the International Taxi flat rates, which are the best official guide to what the trip costs.

For the AREX all-stop train, the useful stops are Gimpo Airport (김포공항) for Lines 5 and 9, Digital Media City (디지털미디어시티), Hongik University (홍대입구) for Hongdae and Line 2, Gongdeok (공덕) for Lines 5 and 6, and Seoul Station (서울역) for Lines 1 and 4 and KTX. If your hotel is in Gangnam, no train is direct; take a bus such as 6009, 6020 (Express Bus Terminal, Banpo, Gangnam Station), or the K-Limousine 6703 (COEX and the Gangnam hotels), or ride AREX to Seoul Station and change to the subway.
Bus routes to know: 6001 runs T2, T1, Sinyongsan, Seoul Station, Myeongdong, Chungmuro, and Dongdaemun; 6015 serves Mapo, Gongdeok, Chungjeongno, Hoehyeon, and the Myeongdong hotels; 6002 covers Hongdae, Sinchon, Gwanghwamun, Jongno, Dongdaemun, and Cheongnyangni; 6701 stops at the City Hall, Gwanghwamun, and Myeongdong hotels; and 6702 serves Seoul Station, the Namsan hotels, and Dongdaemun Design Plaza.
Late-night arrivals
The last express trains leave Terminal 2 at 22:40 and Terminal 1 at 22:48; the last all-stop trains leave at 23:50 and 23:56. After that, four late-night buses cover Seoul from Terminal 1's stops 6A and 3B (Terminal 2 platforms 18, 19, and 24, about 20 minutes earlier): N6000 to the Gangnam Express Bus Terminal (₩17,000, departures from 00:10 to 04:20), N6002 toward Cheongnyangni (₩18,000, 00:00 to 03:20), N6701 to Dongdaemun Design Plaza by way of Seoul Station (₩18,000, 23:50 to 04:40), and N6703 toward Gwangnaru (₩18,000, 23:40 to 04:50). They run about hourly and you need a ticket from the booth, a kiosk, or the T-money GO app before boarding. Taxis run all night with the 40% surcharge until 02:00, which is why the International Taxi flat fare, with no surcharge, is a good deal after midnight.
Beyond Seoul
No train goes from the airport to other cities. KTX service to the airport ended in 2018, so for Busan, Daegu, or Gwangju, ride AREX to Seoul Station and take KTX from there; the route is laid out in Incheon Airport to Busan. Intercity buses do run straight from the airport: in Terminal 1 they board outside doors 11 to 13, and in Terminal 2 at platforms 1 to 10 in the bus terminal, with bookings on the T-money intercity bus site. Gotchas for foreigners
- The express and the all-stop train share a station but not a ticket. Tapping T-money at the express gate does nothing. Buy the express ticket at the counter or online, or use the ordinary gates for the all-stop train.
- Bus tickets first, then the bus. Most airport buses want a ticket or a card tap at the booth before you board. The K-Limousine and route 6015 take a T-money or credit card on the bus itself, but do not assume others do.
- Tolls are added to the meter. A taxi crosses either the Incheon Bridge (₩2,000 for a car since December 2025) or the Yeongjong Bridge on the airport expressway (₩3,200), and the driver adds the toll at the end. This is legal, not a scam.
- Call vans are the scam. The airport warns that vans dressed up as taxis solicit passengers inside the terminal and charge inflated fares. Real taxis wait at the numbered stands outside.
- Check the terminal on your way out, too. Airlines have been moving between terminals since Terminal 2's expansion, and Asiana only moved in January 2026, so an older itinerary or a hotel's directions may send you to the wrong building. Your boarding pass or the airline list on the airport site is the reference.
- Immigration takes longer than you think. The airport itself tells you to allow one to two hours between landing and any bus you prebook.
