Station guide

Busan Station (부산역)

Busan Station is the main rail hub in central Busan and the most common departure point for KTX vs SRT decisions. If you’re taking the train Busan → Seoul or Seoul → Busan, this is the station you will most likely use.

What Busan Station is (and what it isn’t)

Busan Station is the city’s central train terminal where KTX (high-speed) and other Korail trains depart/arrive.

Common confusion: Busan Station vs “Gimhae Airport”

Busan Station is a train station in central Busan. If you’re flying, you likely want Gimhae International Airport (PUS), which is different from the KTX station.

How to get to Busan Station

The simplest way is usually the subway. Busan Station has a direct stop on Busan Metro Line 1.

  • Subway: Take Line 1 to “Busan Station (부산역)”.
  • Taxi: Tell the driver “Busan Station / 부산역”.
  • Walking: If you’re staying around Jungang-dong / Nampo / Choryang, walking can be feasible depending on luggage.
Navigation tip

Aim to enter the main terminal building first, then follow “KTX” signs to ticket gates and platforms. The subway exits can bring you out on different sides—so once you see the main station building, you’re effectively “at the right place.”

Buying tickets at the station

If you haven’t bought tickets online, you can still buy them at Busan Station via staffed counters or ticket machines (availability depends on time/date).

Your canonical guide should remain: /ktx/how-to-buy-tickets.

Practical tip (peak periods)

On weekends and holidays, trains can sell out. If you must travel at a specific time, buy in advance. If you’re flexible, check nearby departures and consider both KTX and SRT depending on your final destination in Seoul.

Finding platforms & boarding flow

The flow is typically: terminal hall ticket gates platform number → board.

  • Check your ticket for the train number and departure time.
  • Use the departure boards to confirm platform.
  • Follow platform signage; cars are numbered, so you can line up near your car.

Luggage storage (lockers) & bags

For most travelers, the question is not “allowed vs not allowed,” but “where do I put my bag comfortably.” For your canonical rules + best practices: /ktx/luggage-rules.

Lockers

Busan Station typically has luggage lockers available inside the station area. If lockers are full, the fallback is to carry bags onto the train and use overhead racks / end-of-car storage (space varies by train and crowding).

Connections: subway, taxi, bus, port

  • Subway: Directly connected (Line 1), convenient for Seomyeon / Nampo / Jungang-dong corridors.
  • Taxi: Easy for hotels with luggage, but traffic can matter.
  • Buses: There are local bus options near the station; best used if you already know the route.
  • Port/ferries: Busan’s port area is relatively close; if your itinerary involves ferries, confirm the exact terminal.

FAQ

Is Busan Station the same as SRT?
No. “SRT” is a high-speed service/operator concept; the important part is which station you depart from and arrive at. In Seoul, SRT commonly uses Suseo Station.
How early should I arrive?
If you want a stress-free experience (finding gates, snacks, restrooms), arriving ~15–25 minutes early is usually reasonable. During peak times, give yourself more buffer.
What if I need to change or refund my ticket?
Keep one canonical policy page and link to it everywhere: /ktx/refund-policy.
